5 Ways to Incorporate Nature Into Your Home

Incorporating nature into your home can prove to be significantly rejuvenating and therapeutic. Bringing a bit of the outdoors into your indoor life is an excellent way to stay connected to natural elements and all the beautiful things nature provides. These elements will help you reduce stress and refocus your attention when you’re stuck.

So, if you want to learn how to keep a positive outlook on life by decorating your home, keep reading for more tips.

Add Plants, Plants, and More Plants

A very simple solution to this problem is bringing more plants into your home. Of course, you don’t need a greenhouse to feel closer to nature. A few more plants than you have right now will probably do the trick. In addition, they will also help you improve indoor air quality by capturing pollutants.

When it comes to picking out the plants, you can go for virtually anything. Find pots that go with your overall aesthetic and pick plants of various sizes and shapes. You can add them to countertops, window sills, or coffee tables. You can also place them on the floor or hang them from a ceiling — the options are endless.

Just make sure to learn about each plant’s needs because not every plant requires frequent watering or constant sun exposure.

Think About Texture and Color

If you want to feel closer to nature, try incorporating Earth tones into your home. Those colors are soothing, and they will add much-needed serenity to your city apartment.

Depending on which natural image you want to incorporate into your home, you can either go for a few different color variants or combine them all. For example, if you’re going to introduce the colors of the forest, opt for palettes of green and brown. For a hint of desert life, choose sand, chalk, muted sage green, and greys. If sunsets are your safe place, go for an orange, yellow, pink, and deep purple.

Like color choices, the textures are also important. Think about honeycomb-shaped tiles or rugs that resemble grass or moss. Choose natural materials like linen, wool, and organic cotton for pillows and throw blankets.

Use Natural Elements

Natural elements like wood, fiber, and bamboo will look and feel great in your home. Furthermore, these materials are sturdy and reliable, so you can expect them to have a longer lifespan than other furniture.

A great example is engineered bamboo flooring, as it is both easily installed and environmentally friendly. Besides, it looks great in any room. Similarly, you can use all natural stone to create a unique kitchen sink. The piece will draw everyone’s eye and create a natural feel to the room.

You can also incorporate second-hand or vintage furniture and materials if you want to introduce sustainable elements into your home. For instance, you can add a couple of wicker baskets onto your patio for an additional environmentally friendly effect.

Take Advantage of Natural Light

Most people want to see as much daylight as possible in their homes. Natural light introduces a cheerful and bright atmosphere, which can be quite helpful on darker, colder days. To make the most out of natural light, follow the tips below.

  • Place mirrors strategically around your home to reflect natural light and light up the whole place.
  • Make sure your windows are clean at all times and keep the drapes open from early mornings.
  • Try to pull your furniture away from the windows so that the light can reach every corner of your room.

Also, by using natural light to your advantage, you’ll reduce your electricity costs.

Display Nature Art

Lastly, displaying nature art is another great way to bring nature closer to you and your family. If you don’t own enough art, you can also shop in thrift stores for vintage paintings of herbs, wildlife, landscapes, plants, and other natural elements. Similarly, you could use the photographs of your family taken in a forest or on a mountain top.

You can even go a step further by investing in pictures and photographs from respected nature artists. If that’s a bit much, shop from your local artists and support their artistry.

Another great idea is to display projects that your children have made or those you’ve created together. Your kids’ drawings and pressed leaves and flowers will look great in picture frames on the walls. You can even create a gallery wall and switch the photos depending on the season.
