Check Out These Historical Sites in Memphis

Memphis, Tennessee is a city with a rich history. It has been the home of a number of historical events and figures and has some really interesting sites to visit.

This list is not exhaustive, but it includes some of the most popular sites in Memphis.

Cotton Museum

The Cotton Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of cotton and its impact on America’s economy and culture. The museum is a part of the Memphis Cotton Exchange and offers visitors a chance to learn about cotton’s origins in Egypt and how it led to America’s rise as an industrial superpower.

The museum showcases the story of cotton’s role in shaping the history and culture of Memphis and America.

The Cotton Museum is a must-see for anyone who wants to learn about the history of cotton, from its origins to its many uses today.

Graceland

Graceland is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Memphis. It was originally built as a residence for Elvis Presley. Now it is a museum and houses Elvis’s cars, clothes, and other memorabilia.

The Graceland grounds are home to the Meditation Garden, which has a reflecting pool and benches for visitors to sit on. The garden also features several statues of famous people such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Teresa.

Visitors can enter Graceland through the front door or go around back to see the Jungle Room where Elvis recorded some of his songs.

National Civil Rights Museum

The National Civil Rights Museum is a museum that explores the civil rights era through multimedia exhibits, films, and public programs.

The museum was designed to explore the civil rights movement from three perspectives: personal stories of individuals who were involved in the movement; an overview of major events and turning points; and an examination of broader social trends that influenced the course of events.

There are many interactive exhibits inside this museum which allow visitors to learn about this era while going through different periods such as slavery, segregation, and Civil Rights Movement.

Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum

The Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum is a museum in Memphis, Tennessee that was founded by the late Dr. Margaret Walker-Jones. It is dedicated to preserving the history of slavery in America and the struggle for freedom.

The museum is located near the site of one of America’s most important landmarks – the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

This museum offers visitors a chance to learn about how slavery impacted life in America and how slaves were able to use their ingenuity and determination to find freedom despite being oppressed. The exhibit also tells visitors about the lives of enslaved people before they were freed by Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863.
