How to Clean Travertine Floors

Your travertine floor is sensationally beautiful. It is crafted of material that is durable and strong. Travertine can be used as flooring for both commercial buildings as well as residential homes. But it is essential to know how to care for travertine flooring in a proper manner. That is why we share this article to help you take care of your gorgeous travertine floor.

What to Do

1. Take fast action.

In order to assure the prevention of stains on your travertine flooring, it is always wise to take fast action. This means that you should immediately sweep debris that you notice on the floor. Also, when something spills on your travertine flooring, be sure to blot the liquid up right away.

2. Apply sealant.

It is a good idea to apply a sealant to your travertine floors, particularly if travertine tiles will be placed in an outdoor region. This will ensure that your travertine will remain with a pristine appearance following the cleaning of the tiles.

3. Use a dry mop.

It is recommended to use a dry mop on your travertine floors in order to dust them. This will aid in the removal of debris as well as dirt, assuring that your travertine floors remain in good condition for a long time.

4. Use a wet mop.

If the dry mopping is not enough for your travertine to look as clean as you would like it to be, you can use a wet mop and warm water. The mop should be a soft one and not an abrasive one. This will preserve the life of your travertine.

5. Use a floor cleaner for travertine flooring.

You can resort to using a floor cleaner if you need to do so. When you are using a cleaner, it is wise to use a cleaner that is certified as being a green cleaner, which has a neutral PH balance. The cleaner should be ready to use and should be a formula designated as safe to use on travertine flooring.

What Not to Do

1. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner.

Never use a vacuum cleaner on your travertine floors. This is due to the fact that though a vacuum cleaner gathers up the debris and dirt quickly, it can be abrasive on the flooring. This can result in the chipping and scratching of the flooring if a vacuum is used frequently.

2. Do not apply vinegar or general cleaners.

You should refrain from using vinegar or other common cleaners when it comes to cleaning your travertine flooring. This is because these products tend to be acidic, which means that this could result in your travertine’s surface being damaged and becoming dull.

3. Do not do deep cleaning yourself.

There will be times when your travertine needs a deep cleaning. And this means that you should not do that yourself. For example, there may be a stain that is hard to remove, or if the flooring is filthy even after you do normal cleaning, then it is time to call the professionals to clean the floor and address the stain. If you try to address the issues yourself, you could cause damage to the travertine.
