5 Reasons Your AC is Not Cooling Your Home Properly

When the temperatures outside are soaring, it’s no wonder you rely on your AC to keep your home cool and comfortable. But what if your AC is not living up to its full potential? If you experience no cooling despite cranking up the AC, it might be time to investigate why. In this blog post, you will learn about the five common reasons your AC is not cooling your home properly – and how to fix them!

Clogged air filter

One common reason for ACs not to work properly is that the air filter is dirty. A dirty air filter will restrict airflow and make it harder for your AC to do its job. The solution is simple – just replace the air filter! Depending on the type of AC unit you have, you should replace the air filter every one to three months.

Frozen evaporator coils

Another possible reason your AC isn’t cooling properly is that the evaporator coils are frozen. This usually happens when there is not enough airflow over the coils. To fix this problem, you need to increase airflow by cleaning any debris around your AC unit, and making sure there are no blockages in the vents or ductwork. You may also need to adjust the temperature setting on your AC unit.

Dirty condenser coils

If your AC unit is still not cooling properly, it could be because the condenser coils are dirty. Just like with the evaporator coils, a build-up of dirt and debris will make it harder for the condenser coils to do their job. To clean the coils, you can use a brush or vacuum attachment to remove any dirt and debris. Once the coils are clean, be sure to check that there are no blockages around the unit that could prevent proper airflow.

Refrigerant leak

Another possible reason for your AC’s lack of cooling power could be a refrigerant leak. A leak in the refrigerant line will cause your AC to lose its ability to cool properly. To fix this problem, you need to have a professional AC technician come out and repair the leak.

Old age

Finally, your AC unit might not be cooling properly because it is simply too old. Over time, AC units lose their efficiency and ability to cool as they should. If your unit is more than ten years old, it might be time to start shopping for a replacement.

If your AC unit isn’t keeping your home as cool as you’d like, it might be time to call for a Brentwood air conditioner installation. Sometimes, it is more cost-effective to replace a faulty air conditioner than to call for repairs. Do not hesitate to consult the pros regarding a new AC installation in your home. Call now!
